UnCiv

UnCiv is an open source turn-based strategy game that's based on the brilliant Civilization franchise (or, more specifically, on the saga's fifth installment). The game, as the screenshots show, has graphics closer to that of the second or third installment, but as soon as you start playing, you'll recognize almost all the controls and concepts from the fifth one (which is still very popular to this day).

Your mission in UnCiv is to create the best civilization in history by founding cities, managing your resources, eliminating threats, and using diplomacy. When you start a new game, it's a good idea to start by exploring your surroundings to recognize the nearest threats and the best opportunities. After that, try to expand your territory and, over time, create a prosperous empire.

Needless to say, UnCiv is a relatively complex game that, while familiar to any veteran of the Civilization saga, may be somewhat complicated for those who have never played any of its installments. Players have to manage concepts and controls as diverse as diplomacy with other civilizations, the technology tree, the development of cities, the adoption of new policies, and much more. Fortunately, the game has a tutorial to guide you through all these processes.

UnCiv is a great open source version of a classic video game. This is a completely free and ad-free game that will delight fans of the genre. In a nutshell, this is an absolutely outstanding title that takes up only 80MB and can be played on virtually any modern computer. It's a real treat for fans of turn-based strategy and 4X.
